He advises on coverage issues, policy wording and settlement negotiations, with particular expertise in hull, liability, war risk and event insurance.

Louis is a Senior Associate specialising in maritime and non-maritime insurance law. He focuses on complex insurance claims, both contentious and non-contentious, including coverage, claims handling, third-party liability and recourse actions.

He primarily advises and represents (re-)insurers and insureds from the German market, the international corporate market and the Lloyd’s market, particularly in relation to specialty lines, including hull, yacht, war risk, cargo, entertainment and fine art / specie.

Before qualifying as a German lawyer, Louis worked for several years at the Chair of Insurance Law at the University of Hamburg, with a particular focus on financial lines. His doctoral thesis on excess insurance (Grundlagen der Exzedentenversicherung) was awarded the prize for best insurance law thesis in 2020 by the Association for the Promotion of Insurance Science in Hamburg (VFVH).
