About Jonas Hjortskov

Advises on commercial, maritime, inland waterway and infrastructure contracts, disputes and casualty matters

He advises on complex international disputes, casualties as well as a broad variety of contractual issues, with particular experience in cross-border enforcement and multi-jurisdictional cases.

Jonas advises on contentious and non-contentious domestic and international commercial matters, with a particular focus on disputes and advisory work arising out of contracts for works and services. His practice regularly involves cross-border elements, and he has advised on contractual and procedural issues across multiple jurisdictions, including the obtaining and enforcement of both domestic and foreign arbitral and judicial awards. Jonas is accustomed to working closely with lawyers, experts and practitioners from different legal systems and professional backgrounds.

He also advises on infrastructure projects, in particular in the fields of fibre optic networks and energy supply infrastructure. His work in this area includes transactional advice as well as contractual support relating to construction, use and operation of infrastructure assets.

Jonas has broad experience in commercial casualty matters involving damage to property, including complex loss scenarios with multiple damaged and damaging parties. He undertakes comprehensive factual and legal reviews, including on-site and off-site fact finding, and manages extensive casualty cases from an early emergency phase through to settlement or enforcement.

He is experienced in maritime emergency management and regularly advises on maritime casualties, including general average (Havarie Grosse). His work includes the legal structuring and coordination of rescue and mitigation measures, as well as the legal support required to safeguard and enforce claims following maritime incidents.

Jonas has more than ten years’ experience advising on all legal aspects of inland navigation (Binnenschifffahrt). His work in this field covers the handling, negotiation and resolution of casualties and incidents, including groundings and collisions, cargo damage, delay claims, fires, shipyard and repair contracts, as well as other operational and contractual disputes. He has advised on the full lifecycle of such matters, from the immediate response and factual investigation through to settlement negotiations and judicial or arbitral proceedings, and continues to regularly act on inland navigation matters for insurers, operators and other industry participants.

Jonas frequently advises maritime industry participants as well as their sub-suppliers and subcontractors in relation to contracts for works and services. This includes assistance with contract negotiations as well as the enforcement and defence of warranty claims and other contractual claims arising during or after project execution.
