Daniel Jones is a maritime lawyer advising clients across the shipping industry on both contentious and non-contentious matters. His practice covers the full spectrum of shipping work, with particular strength in chartering, carriage of goods and maritime disputes. He has extensive experience advising on time and voyage charters and representing clients in London maritime arbitrations, including disputes under charterparties and bills of lading. He advises on shipbuilding contracts, including contract drafting, newbuilding projects and disputes between shipyards and buyers. Daniel’s contentious work includes Admiralty matters such as General Average, collision and salvage, as well as ship-management disputes. He has over 25 years’ experience acting in LMAA arbitrations and proceedings before the English courts. Beyond core shipping, Daniel advises on marine insurance matters, including hull and machinery, war risks and liability insurance, acting for insurers, P&I Clubs and insureds in complex coverage disputes. He also supports clients on sanctions and regulatory issues affecting maritime trade, as well as on disputes arising in trade and commodities transactions. Daniel has particular expertise in the superyacht sector, advising private clients on high-value yacht projects, including newbuildings, refits, repairs, charter and sale and purchase disputes, as well as related insurance claims. In addition, Daniel advises on ship financing transactions, including the structuring, negotiation and documentation of loan and security arrangements He also advises on maritime aspects of offshore energy and infrastructure projects where shipping, construction and insurance issues intersect. Recognised as an “excellent” lawyer by The Legal 500, Daniel combines deep industry knowledge with a pragmatic, commercially focused approach. Having spent much of his career in Hamburg, he works fluently in both English and German.
